Hey There.
Melissa here. I'm a seasoned professional with a rich background in People and Operational management within the dynamic Technology sector, specifically in startups and small businesses. Having navigated the complexities and challenges of small business operations, I am passionate about elevating others and easing the burden.
My Story.
I am a proud native of Hickory, North Carolina, and I'm currently residing in the heart of Nashville, Tennessee. My professional journey began in Accounting and Finance, following the conventional thought that it would be the path to financial stability. Truth be told, I found myself completely bored with the monotony of the job—the bosses, the tasks, everything seemed uninspiring.
In 2012, a serendipitous opportunity presented itself when I stumbled upon a Craigslist posting for an Office Manager position at a Tech Startup. Without fully understanding the scope of the role, I eagerly accepted the challenge. Little did I know that this leap of faith would mark the beginning of my professional evolution.
At this startup, I was granted the freedom to explore various facets of the business. I managed Operations and dabbled in HR and even... Accounting and Finance. I had a solid boss who believed in me and gave me a chance.
I embraced every opportunity to learn, grow, and ask for more work.
It was here that I discovered my passion for people management and operational excellence. Balancing full-time work with my academic pursuits, I started on a journey of self-improvement. While working, attending classes at night and on weekends, and juggling odd jobs to make ends meet, I earned my undergraduate degree from Queens University in Charlotte, NC, and later completed my MBA at Wake Forest University.

Fueled by the desire to help others succeed, I began offering my expertise to those struggling with their small businesses- providing them with a range of services from accounting assistance, marketing, and even talent acquisition. I began creating presentation decks for their investor meetings, setting up their HRIS platforms, and hitting the ground to help grow their brand. I thrived on the challenge of empowering Founders and their entrepreneurial ventures.
My journey eventually led me to a role as Head of People and Operations for an Analytics and AI-based startup and later to a Vice President of People role in the HR Technology space. I have had the privilege of contributing to rapid company growth from inception, spearheading the recruitment of hundreds of talented individuals, and orchestrating large-scale employer events and other initiatives that propelled organizations forward.
My career trajectory has been defined by my willingness to embrace new opportunities, a passion for continuous learning, and a commitment to empowering others.
I've landed my companies on prestigious lists like Best Places to Work, Fast 50, and Inc. 5000. Currently, I'm continuing my growth as a student in Wharton's Chief Human Resource Officer program. I am eager to leverage my experiences to make a meaningful impact on individuals and organizations.
